Assistant Professor; Internal Medicine Assistant Program Director for Ambulatory/Outpatient Education

Background Information:  Georgia Regents University and University of Georgia have partnered to create a four-year medical education program in Athens, GA, to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The GRU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the flagship land grant research university, with the expertise of GRU, Georgia’s only public medical school. GRU/UGA has partnered with St. Mary’s Healthcare System as the major participating site to sponsor a three-year categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program in Athens, Ga. The program received accreditation in 2014 for 30 residents and is participating in the National Residency Match Program for its first class to start in July 2015.

The Opportunity:  We are looking for a dynamic, innovative academic medical educator with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to develop and lead the ambulatory/outpatient curriculum of the categorical Internal Medicine Residency Program as an Assistant Program Director. This position will offer enormous possibilities for developing and enhancing skills, leadership ability, and personal growth. Successful applicants will primarily be responsible for providing care for patients and providing supervision and teaching of residents in an outpatient practice as an academic medical educator. This position will have both clinical responsibilities as well as scholarly responsibilities as a core faculty member. The position is a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor commensurate with experience.

OVERVIEW:  The Assistant Program Director for Ambulatory/Outpatient Education is responsible for the development and administration of the Ambulatory/Outpatient educational curriculum for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.

General Responsibilities

•  Participate in the development and execution of a comprehensive curriculum in ambulatory/outpatient General Internal Medicine, including teaching clinical skills, teaching practice management skills, and teaching quality improvement skills in both an ambulatory/outpatient setting and in a didactic curriculum.

•  Participate in the clinical practice of the Ambulatory/Outpatient Residency Practice including supervising residents in the ambulatory practice.

•  Participate in scholarly activities including publishing and disseminating new and original work in peer-reviewed venues and mentoring residents to publish and disseminate their work in peer-reviewed venues.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

MD or DO degree

Board Certification in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties

Able to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia

Able to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges

Able to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license
