The Department of History, Anthropology, and Philosophy at Georgia Regents University (GRU) invites applications for the position of Chair. The faculty appointment will be for a 12-month contract starting July 1, 2014. On January 8, 2013 Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University consolidated to become a dynamic new institution that maintains its strong traditions of both universities. After recent accreditation from SACS-COC, GRU is experiencing an exciting and challenging period of transition and growth into a university with high research activity and teaching excellence.
Currently the department offers B.A. programs in History, Secondary Education Teacher Certification with a concentration in History, and Anthropology, as well as a minor program in Philosophy. A proposal is under consideration to launch a future M.A. program in History. The department seeks a visionary and flexible candidate with demonstrated departmental and university leadership, as well as strengths in interpersonal communication, collegiality, and organization to foster an atmosphere of growth and innovation. In particular, we seek experience in program and curricular development, budget and personnel management, student recruitment and retention, grant writing, and assessment. While scholarship will have an increasingly important role in the future growth of the department and GRU, our department prides itself on excellence in teaching, close interaction with students through advising, mentoring of undergraduate researchers, small class sizes, and cross-disciplinary interaction with faculty from other departments.
The candidate should hold a doctorate in History or Anthropology, with field of specialization open, and should be eligible for appointment as an associate or full professor. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience, scholarly activities, and publications. Review of applications will begin November 25, 2013. Preliminary (in-person) interviews will be held in Washington, D.C. in early January 2014.
Applicants should submit a letter of application, a current CV and three letters of reference addressed to:
