Our next Lecturer in Art Education will play a central role as the School of Art and Design collaborates to transform its curriculum and pedagogy to foreground experiential, interdisciplinary, and technologically enhanced learning furthering Georgia State’s strategic goal of demonstrating that students from all backgrounds can achieve academic and career success at high rates. Opportunities for growth and support in this position include university-level teaching fellowships and grants through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, leadership in instructional innovation through our active learning classroom program, and successive promotion to the ranks of Senior Lecturer and Principal Senior Lecturer.

The School of Art and Design is part of the College of the Arts, which was established in 2016 and also includes the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design, the School of Film, Media & Theatre, the School of Music, the Center for Collaborative & International Arts (CENCIA), and the Center for Educational Partnerships in Music. In addition to offering some of the university’s most popular majors, the college connects faculty and students with Atlanta’s thriving arts scene and booming film and music industries.

The selected candidate can anticipate teaching undergraduate courses in Art Education and participating in service at the department, college, and/or university levels.


The Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design at Georgia State University invites applicants for a full time permanent lecturer position in the area of Art Education to begin August of 2018.  Georgia State University is a large research institution located in downtown Atlanta with a highly diverse student body. Successful applicants should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of theory and practice in art education, as well skills necessary to teach visual arts at the foundation level. Candidates should have a record of excellent teaching in the field, possess a strong studio background and hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Art Education. Applicants who hold a MFA with successful P-12 art education teaching experience will also be considered. Candidates should have at least 3 years P-12 teaching in a public school setting. Experience teaching art education methods courses and/or studio practice courses in an institution of higher education is preferred.

Salary: $45,000
