Nature of Work The School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor of Communications within the Department of Arts and Humanities. This appointment is expected to begin August 1, 2017. This position is an academic year (10- month) appointment.

Essential Duties

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching Human Communication, Fundamentals of Speech Communication, Survey of Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, Telecommunication, and/or Film/Television. Initial responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours in both fall and spring semesters; summer teaching opportunities are based on student enrollment. The candidate must work cooperatively with others and be willing to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online classes at the Brunswick campus and/or the Camden location as needed. While demonstrating excellence in teaching, the candidate will contribute to departmental and college committees, advise students majoring in American Studies (BA), Interdisciplinary Studies (BS), and/or the AA in Communication, participate in the development of new courses, and demonstrate a commitment to scholarship and professional development.

Minimum Qualifications and Training

Terminal Degree in Communications or a related field from a regionally accredited institution must be completed at time of application.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Commitment to serving diverse student populations in a collegiate setting
  • Experience teaching the following courses: Human Communication, Fundamentals of Speech Communication, Survey of Mass Communication, Intercultural Communication, Telecommunication, and/or Film/Television.
  • Commitment to using high-impact teaching strategies such as First-Year Experiences, Common Intellectual Experiences, Learning Communities, Writing-Intensive Courses, Collaborative Assignments and Projects, Undergraduate Research, Diversity/Global Learning, Service-Learning, Community-Based Learning, Internships, and/or Capstone Courses and Projects

Preferred Qualifications and Training

  • Mentoring, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Computer literacy, including experience using technology in the classroom
  • Experience with film and documentary creation and production.
